• Oracle Acquires Pillar Data Systems

    Oracle now has a complete storage offering after it acquired privately-held Storage Area Network (SAN) company Pillar Data Systems on Wednesday. Last year Oracle spent 7.5 billion in aquiring Sun Microsystems and the latest acquisition gives Oracle the much needed SAN/NAS platform which can perform effectively at high utilization rates.

    Axiom a combination of SAN and NAS is the key product of Pillar and allows customers to consolidate storage into a single highly scalable device. Pillar is known to have more than 500 customers. This deal clearly underscores the database giants intention to be independent from third party hardware solutions including the storage of LSI which was recently acquired by NetApp

    With an end to end offering, Oracle now can really move into a pay per use deployment model at customer sites with a complete stack from its own organization.
