I am the product manager of Data Studio / Optim products and would also like to hear your opinions and hopefully incorporate them into future releases. Are you looking for a Solaris front-end? There is support for databases running on Solaris, but since Data Studio is Eclipse based it only supports Linux, Windows, and MAC front-ends. In terms of db/dbm options, there is support for configuration parameters, let me know what it is you don't like about that feature. Same goes for user privileges. There are user privileges, but not support for authorities, so not sure if that's what you're looking for. Also, we do have a Data Studio Forum at this link: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/f...D=1086&start=0 if you want to discuss Data Studio specifics. I'm always open to hear suggestions on how we can improve the product. I know we have not yet caught up with Control Center, but hearing what's important from users will help get it there faster. Thanks for you input, Deb Jenson |

Thanks Deb. I found lots of similar questions in the forum. So, do you mean Data Studio / Optim products are not possible to be installed in the UNIX environment even in the future? Actually I'm trying to encourage my company to purchase the Optim products, but this will be a big barrier. |

Actually our newer performance oriented products will all be browser based which removes the front-end barrier for us. Our performance monitor will be the first product to offer this and we'll have more administrative offerings, probably in 2010, that also use a browser based interface. |

Linux is supported IF you are running on a supported OS (RHEL or SLES). I installed the Standalone version of Data Studio on Ubuntu 8.04 and had a LOT of problems. And, of course, Mac OS X is not available (even though Eclipse allows it). I am hoping that the Linux restrictions are relaxed and Mac OS support appears in the not-too-distant future. |
