Default Coolest Linux Projects

I'm in need of some creative ideas - what are some of the coolest uses
for a Linux system you've seen? I'm particularly interested in
anything Home Theater (I'm already thinking of building a MythTV box),
Home Automation related, or creative uses for VMWare Linux virtual
machines, but any ideas are greatly appreciated. My only real
requirement is that it not require expensive hardware (buying a home
tends to be a drain on the bank account .

There's LinuxMCE (http://linuxmce.com/) and Misterhouse
(http://www.misterhouse.com/) just to name two. Of course you could
visit my site and look around. I also wrote a book which is mentioned
