Default trying to install centos/linux

I created 15 gig of free space (logical partition) on my drive to
install centos/linux on. Going through the installation it says
'device /dev/sdb has a logical sector size of 4096. not all part of
gnu parted support this at the moment, and the working code is highly
experimental'. Then I got another error 'the partition table or
device sdb was unreadable. to create new partitions it may be
initizalized, causing the loss of all data on this device. I think I
got one more error and it wouldn't let me past it.

Does the free space need to be closer to the front of the drive ?
would I be better off just creating a primary partition to install to
or would I still get that sdb error message?

Thanks,
Pete
