Default Notes delivers mail to firstname@domain.com

We have Lotus Domino 7.0.3, and one of our users started to get some UCE
from various locations. All of our Lotus Notes Users receive mail as
"Firstname_Lastname@domain.com". This one user is getting the emails
that are just addressed to "Firstname@domain.com".

The user's name is Kevin O'Keefe (note the apostrophe). In his person
document in the NAB, he has 2 usernames:

Kevin O'Keefe/org
Kevin O'Keefe

There is nothing under Alternate name, and the short name only contains
KO'Keefe.

I figure there must be some configuration option that would allow users
to receive email by their first name only, but I have no idea where it
would be located, or what it would be called. Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

By default, addresses are matched against the $Users view, and that view
includes first name as one of the indexed values. When SMTP mail is
delivered to a server, it first attempt to match against
name@domain.com, and if no match, then looks for just the local part. In
this case "kevin". Most likely your kevin is the first one found in the
$Users view.

In the domino directory, under configuration, servers, configuration
documents, create or edit the default configuration document (or an for a
group of servers or an individual server)
on the router-smtp, Basics tab, change address lookup from the default
Fullname then local to fullname only.
This way you will only receive mail on your configured email addresses. More
information about this setting can be found in the administration help
database.

Cheers

Thank you. I tried to set that to fullname only, however, that also
prevents the users from getting email under aliases that are configured
in the Short Name field.

As it is right now, I guess the only way to stop the emails to
firstname@domain.com is to just create a rule in the user's mail database.

Thanks for your help.

put the aliases in the full name field, where they are supposed to be.

shortname field's supposed to be just that, the shortname, single value.

using rules to enforce this will create unnecessary load on your server(s).

Cheers.
