Default ORA-00470 LGWR found dead

I have a nasty problem on all instances on one server (not on any db's on other servers). All datafiles (tablespaces, logs, etc) are on a Piller SAN. 2 days ago, 2 of the Piller units blew up and starting throwing errors. They recovered the Pillar unit and ever since then all databases on a single AIX server are getting the same error - database starts normally, stays up for about 1 hour and then crashes wit the ORA-00470 error. I have found that when I start a database, if I do a ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE - it causes the error to occur, so it appears to be repeatable. Anyone seen this one before? MetaLink doesn't appear to be any help.
