Paradox, latest version? - Paradox Database

This is a discussion on Paradox, latest version? - Paradox Database ; I'm using Paradox 8. What I like most about it is the QBE interface. Is this kept in version OfficePro X4 or other versions between 8 and X4? Any reason for me to upgrade from 8, better speed or table ...

Default Paradox, latest version?

Any reason for me to upgrade from 8, better speed or table capacity? Or is
newer versions just more bugs and no benefits and maybe loss of my favorite
QBE :-)

all versions are the same in regard to QBE, interactive use, and the
interface.. unless there is specific new function you need, don't mess with
it..

What Steven said. The latest version of Paradox is 11 -- Corel has stated
that it will not upgrade it after that.

I upgraded from 8 to 11; here's my experience. Pdox 11 adds only two new
functions that I know of. First, it has the native ability to write a jpeg
file into a blob or graphics field. It does this by converting it to a bmp,
then storing/displaying the bmp. If this is what you need, you can do it
with a dll. Second, it adds a new data type that's meant to help you
internationalize forms.

Pdox 11 also added two strong negatives. First, it replaced P8's simple,
easy data modeling tool with something much more complex and time
consuming, but with no additional functionality. This alone is reason to
stay with P8. Second, P11 tends to GPF a lot more than P8 while in
development mode. Typically, no reboot is required -- just restart Pdox.
It's a pain, though.

in my opinion Version 9 is the best
later versions loose cursor in visible formatted memo fields
scanning with eztwain.dll
scanning in P11 isn't a good job, because of GPF, if scanner isn't avaible
printing is dirty in all versions

I upgraded from 10 to X3 because
I wanted pdox to query remote tables
on ms sql server or mysql.

Oddly enough, a windows xp update,
caused some loss of functionality in pdox 10 in this area.

I totally agree with this statement ,
and have added pdox 10 to machines that had X3,
so that development does not GPF all the time.

A major difference is also the print module. In my experience switching
printers, paper formats and paper trays, works better in P10 than P8 (but
still with some problems).
