My gosh Peter, Wizard has been dead for about 15 years. While there are modern alternatives, I'm unaware of any utilities to convert from Wizard, or products that allow for a smooth transition. Unless someone else has a better idea, I think the best thing to do is to write up a long-term strategic exit plan. The plan should include itemizing valuable BASIC business rules, and ensuring that dictionary defs are accurate for all files so that you can migrate the app into another environment more easily. Good luck, T mdsi2000 wrote: >Hello group, > > >Is this a dead product? I should have known something was wrong when I didn't get a response from a particilar website in Australia. Yes, I do have a long term project ahead of me. But my current problem now is to increase the number of Wizard licences. thanks, Peter G. |

I keep getting a Failure Messages after entering a 6 digit code. I even tried some of the emails, but they bounce back with errors. I'm not going to call long distance. Are you associated with them? Thanks, Peter G. |

Hi I have spoken to Bob Guthrie a few minutes ago and he should contact you. He is well known and reliable in the Australian Pick business. Apparently he bought Wizard from Ken's estate and wrapped up the development Peter McMurray "mdsi2000" news:b481a9d0-224d-4e7a-933f-83f36805b71b@y79g2000hsa.googlegroups.com... It seems General Automation had the rights to Wizard, then passed them to GAeXpress, who passed them to FusionWare, who has now passed them on to Pick Products. It's good to know that sites that have this old software aren't completely stuffed. And it looks like Pick Products has other interesting offerings as well. T |

Actually, it will be twenty years ago next month that Ken Simms, the author of Wizard and S/BASIC, passed away. Interestingly, it was 14 years ago this month that Dick Pick passed away. More interestingly, Dick's passing occurred on the same day as Henry Egger's last at Micro-Douglas-Causley-Dyne. IIRC, he was the last one out of Tower ("Stalag") 17, a fitting day and person to be the last one to turn the lights out. Regards, j. |

ACTUALLY, Wizard never died... There are many of us "Wizard Minions" (trained by Ken) that still have applications that were written with Wizard 4GL. I know Steve Lambert is still in business and I have Wizard running on a GA 1750 that I use all the time. Ken Simms left Pick a month or two before the first big layoff. I left Pick a week before the big layoff. Ken went to work for ITS. I went to ITS. When Steve got caught in the big layoff he came to ITS. We all worked for ITS Financial Systems in 1977-8. That company for those with historical interest was a Microdata dealership whose principals were Gordon Selby and Jack Cory. We wrote a package (in Wizard) for the loan processing / mortgage banking industry. When that company defuncted -- Ken formed Automatic Programming and Jack Cory & I worked for Ken writing various enhancements to Wizard up to the time Ken died. Wizard was licenced to Adds (called Implementor) and that's how GA got it. I think it went out bundled with one of Pick Systems OS versions also. I am always available for Wizard support in this country or in neighboring planetary systems. Love to all, John Bohner |
