| older version of Lotus 123. I am trying to figure out which versions of Lotus will install and run on XP. I am only an occasional user of spreadsheets, and have been using Lotus 123 for Windows v. 4 (ca. 1993). I am happy with the program, and it installed and runs fine on my Win ME machine. However, I just bought a new computer running Win XP, and it won't install on that machine. It just gives me an error message: "chdir failed." A techie friend says he thinks that is a DOS system call, rather than a shell command. At any rate, I am thinking of trying to find a copy of, say, version 5 on CD, since that was designed to run under Win95. But I'm unsure whether that would run properly under XP. I have other spreadsheet programs (like Excel and Quattro Pro), but don't really want to take the time right now to learn a different spreadsheet program. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. C'ya, Ben P.S. If there is any website that discusses the various versions of 123 from v. 4 to today's version, I'd really appreciate getting the URL. |

I use 123 ver 5.0 running XP Pro. There are a couple of minor things that don't work with XP but there are work arounds. For the most part you only need 5.0 and the year 2000 update. I also have ver 9.8 but I prefer the older version as I really do not want to learn the scrip language. X-No-Archive: yes You can buy the XP compatible version on eBay dirt cheap. I think IBM is giving up on SmartSuite. Too bad. MS claims another victim. |

The identity of windows and Office programs do not mean that they are compatible with those of the same identity (.i.e. XP). |
