Default Sql date time problem

hi im new to sql when i add data i.e specially date in database date goes in database but with it time also goes eg. 2006-02-01 00:00:00.000

i daont want to add time.should i use smalldatetime to remove this.

because when i display the result in application along with date time also comes in output.
