Default SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2008

We have Windows 2008 Server and when we try to install SQL Server 2000
on it we are geting:

[Main Instruction]
This program has known compatibility issues

[Expanded Information]
SQL Server 2000 is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more
information, contact Microsoft.

Can we run SQL server on Windows 2008?

SQL server 2000 is not supported on Windows 2008. See
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/sqlonvista.mspx. Also, mainstream
support for SQL Server 2000 has ended. See
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifeselectserv.

Note that this does not mean that it won't work. For example, I run SQL
2000 Developer Edition under Windows Visa but I use only a subset of the
features and not for production purposes. I do this at my own risk.

Hope this helps.

To get MS SQL 2000 successfully installed, you need to keep default settings for Windows 2008 installation. Especially, do not change Country and Language settings. Otherwise, the collation sequence of MS SQL 2000 which is expecting SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS will fail.
