| I've been trying to install SQL Server Management Studio on my laptop with no luck. I am running windows xp professional sp 2. It continues to fail with no clear message as to why. I have sql 2000 tools on this machine. Would that break the install? I get the message: The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is SetDialogs. The error is: Source File Name: ....\datastorecachexmlschema.cpp compiler timestamp Fri Jul 29 01:13:50 2005 function name: DataStoreCacheXMLSchema::initScopeRecord Any thoughts would be great. It is possible to have the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 tools installed side by side. But check that you have at least SP3 of the SQL 2000 tools. I don't think that is the issue, though. > I get the message: The setup has encountered an unexpected error in > datastore. The action is SetDialogs. I would suspect this is due to some other components that have messed things up. But I have no idea of what. There is an extremely unfriendly message you get if you make the mistake of copying only the Servers CD to hard disk and then try to install the tools. But I don't think it is this message. -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esquel@sommarskog.se Books Online for SQL Server 2005 at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...ads/books.mspx Books Online for SQL Server 2000 at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...ons/books.mspx |

Verify that all previous versions of sql server 2005 have been fully uninstalled including any and all seperate applications that installation installs. You can download windows complete uninstaller to check the registry that add/remove programs thinks is uninstalled. -- Sincerely, John K Knowledgy Consulting http://knowledgy.org/ Atlanta's Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Experts "Laura" news:851DD159-A9F0-4BA6-8F74-7A752CE265C6@microsoft.com... > Good afternoon, > > I've been trying to install SQL Server Management Studio on my laptop with > no luck. Ok, Like many I've been fighting to get my SQL Server 2005 Management Studio to install. I tried where you uninstall everything and directly run CD:\SQL Server x86\Tools\Setup\SqlRun_Tools.msi but got a new error. Or exception rather related to the datastorecachexmlschema.cpp file. I went as far as formating my new machine and reloading XP without results. I must have these tools to do my work. Here is what you need to do in addition to get around this error. Start the normal setup from the cd that install the install tools. You need to first install the install tools before you can run the install, duh! Then as soon as you can cancle the install only installing the install tools. Now you can run the SqlRun_Tools.msi without error. |
