Default Sybase 12.5.0.6 - remove system and default

Hello,

We have a database within Sybase 12.5 on an older HP-UX system which is to be phased out in the next few months, and over time the database has grown so large that it almost too resource intensive to try any maintenance. The database is designed such that all the tables are allocated to specific segments, which have the default and system segments are removed, from the device. Several of the tables are used for auditing purposes, should it ever be needed, and with the initial design they have no index.

Our current problem is that someone had forgotten to remove the system and default segments from the device that had been extended to these tables within the audit segment. I have checked the segments and found that default and system segment is starting to fill up, where it had not been prior to this previous device being added. As well, I have confirmed that the tables are now spread out over the default and system segment, where they should not be.

The questions:
Can I drop the system and default segments off this device, without losing data?

Can I remove these tables from adding any further data on the default and system segments?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Andy
