Pls help: "Inventory system" for machine room

Hi there,

We're going to develop a system to keep track of all system and
network equipments information (physical location, power consumption,
hostname, description of functions provided, etc.) in our central
machine room so that operation staff can have an overall view of all
devices (including air conditioner, UPS, etc.) in the machine room.

The target system will also keep track of operational details, such as
which systems connect to the same FC switch and SAN, which systems are
criticall ones e.g. DNS, etc.

Before start coding, I'd like to know if there is any software that
provide similar function (and customizable is available. Would
anyone advise?
