Not going to work.....right?
I have Replication setup between my Sql 2000 production box to the Sql 2005 box that will be the production reporting server.
The intention was to get the Sql 2005 reporting box up & running before the production OLTP server is migrated to Sql 2005. So, right now the production Sql 2000 server is replicating to the existing Sql 2000 reporting server AND the Sql 2005 reporting server (That will become the reporting server)
When the OLTP (Sql 2000) server is migrated to the Sql 2005 server, the aforementioned setup doesn't do anything for me........the definitions, the distribution db, etc., are not known to the Sql 2005 server which will be OLTP production.
I am going to have to tear down the replication on the 2005 box once the db is restored & set it back up again, won't i?
Follow my convoluted thinking? Opinions ?
Thanx!

Re: Not going to work.....right?
Is this what you mean
Current topology
Server 1=SQL 2000 - OLTP
Server 2=SQL2005 Reporting
Server 3 SQL2000 Reporting
Server1=Publisher
Server2, Server3=Subscribers to Server1.
Planned Topology
Server1 upgraded to SQL 2005 - OLTP
Server 2=SQL2005 Reporting
Server 3 SQL2000 Reporting
If your question is what do you have to do to get this to work after the upgrade, you don't have to do anything, just upgrade Server1. If I am missing something please let me know.

Re: Not going to work.....right?
You're not missing anything, I probably didn't paint the picture well enough.
Server 1 = Sql 2000 - OLTP
Replicates to Server 2 - existing Sql 2000 OLAP server
Also replicates to Server 3 - New Sql 2005 OLAP server (moving db's very slowly from another Sql 2000 OLAP)
Server 1 will be moved to another new Sql 2005 server
It will need to replicate to server 2 - new Sql 2005 OLAP server, but I am thinking the definition for replication will not be present on the new Sql 2005 server replacing Server 1. No distribution db on new Sql 2005 server.
Make sense? Convoluted I know, but I really think I will have to tear down the existing replication & set it up again once the Server 1 OLTP db is moved to the new Sql 2005 server.
